What is keeping us from being all that God created us to be? Why don’t we run after our dreams? Why are we so immobilized by fear instead of jolted by opportunity? If any of these questions bother you then this book is a must read! I’m loving it! The last 2 books that I read were horrible so it is so refreshing to read something that is so useful and not a waste of my time. If you would like to get into a discussion on the book, engage me! I’m already talking to Tracy (my wife) about the principles in this book. For example, chapter 3, Principle 1 “Dig it up!” talks about digging up the things in your life! Your dreams are meant to be explored and not buried. The problems in our lives are meant to be exposed and worked on not hidden! What ever is inside should work its way out! I’ve been probing her mind about her hidden dreams (in her case, the things that she has put on hold for the sake of the family). We have discovered that one thing she always loved was playing the piano but her parents couldn’t afford it so she had to stop growing in her talent. Guess what we have a piano that she never plays, why? Ok, tis the season! Over this summer it’s time to dig up her dreams and make them a reality! Like I said, I love this book! Ok now to me, what have I buried? Good or bad? Well I have had a dream of going to Africa on a mission trip for years! Why haven’t I gone? I don’t know maybe money or timing or just because. It’s been buried so long that it has taken 4 days to rethink about it! REthink! Maybe it is time for you to rethink or dig up your dream or to deal with some pain that has been lodged in your live so long that you’ve consider it normal! Go get the book, read it and let me know what you think! I will post more about the book as I dig farther into it! Chow!
Well here we go again! Back into the land of some the greatest people on the face of the earth – MEXICO! May 30 – June 6 we will be in Roca Blanca working with the indigenous people of Mexico, the Indians. There is 21 people on the team that is going this year and what a team it is. All of the Genesis staff is going along with a team that was hand picked by God for such a time as this. God hand has been all over the fundraising end of this trip. The Money is in, Thank you Jesus. The team is launched and ready physically and now it is time for us to focus in on the spiritual preparation of the team. Over the next few weeks we will be preparing the ministry opportunities that have been presented to us.
- VBS – 4 locations and 5 ministry times. We are praying for the hearts of the kids to be exposed to the loving grace of Jesus Christ. We understand that these kids have the opportunity live in freedom and to impact their families with the story of Jesus.
- School assemblies – so far we may have the opportunity to get within 3 school.
- Partnering with 4 local churches to help impact their communities with Jesus.
- Home visits – we are spend some time in peoples homes sharing Jesus and praying over them.
- Food Distribution!
Pleas consider praying for us that God would put us in the right spot at the right time and that His fame would spread with authority and speed!
I’ve heard this said many times by different people while praying, I have even used it. Today I was reading Acts 3 and 4 where Peter and John walk up to a 40 year old lame beggar man. The man is asking for money but Peter says that they don’t have any money but what they do have is Jesus. He tells the man “in the name of Jesus” arise and walk. So the man, gets up and walks. WHAT?! How? In the name of . . . What does this mean? A few years ago, before we moved back to Charleston from Laredo, we were in the process of buying a house and couldn’t make it back to Charleston for the closing so we gave our real-estate agent power of attorney to act on our behalf. He went to the closing and acted on our behalf and now we own the house not him, he was just the agent. He was acting on our behalf! This is what Peter was doing in Acts 3 – He was acting on behalf of Jesus. Our agent was backed by us and the US Government. Peter was backed by Jesus and all of Heaven. Another thing that came to my mind was how Peter was quick to afterwards give credit to Jesus. Also, Peter realized that there was the perfect opportunity to tell people about the good news of Jesus.
I just wonder if when we use the phrase “in the name of Jesus” are we really acting on behalf of Him? Would we be quick to give Him credit?
My Prayer for us – Jesus, stamp me with the seal of Your Holy Spirit and lead me where you would have me to go and give me the boldness to act on Your behalf and the humility (or obedience) to always give You the credit. May I also recognize the moments that You have orchestrated so that people can hear about You and experience the good news of Your story!
Holy Cow Easter was so amazing this year. Here at Northwood Church we had our service in a HUGE tent. No we are not one of those type of churches that set up on street corners and get crazy loud. I have no problem with that type of thing because my grandfather got saved in one of those and it changed my families eternal destiny. Just saying that was not what we were doing. The reason for the tent is that our church burnt down 3 years ago leaving us without a main sanctuary so we have had to have multiple services at different locations. Easter gave us the opportunity to gather everyone back together and celebrate Jesus. We have a great God, a great pastor, a great church, great volunteers and a great staff! Everything went so smooth! The tent seated 1200 people and took some work to look modern but it looked great! God doesn’t deserve or expect our left overs or our second best and I feel like he got our best this weekend. The worship could be heard for blocks away. Pastor talked about the Saturday before Easter Sunday and how there is a brighter day ahead for all of us. Then he told the church about what God has been doing in our church since the fire (our Saturday)! Awesome news! When ever we are wondering where God is and what He is doing, He is not! He know what he is doing and His ways are nothing like ours! Thank you Jesus! I just have to say thank you to our team – THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Tonight, Tracy and I were talking to Brock (my oldest son) about the college road trip we’re taking next week. We are very pumped about the alone time with him. He is excited and also very confused about his life. He is worried about what he is supposed to do and who he is going to be when he gets out into the REAL world. As we were talking, I was reminded of the book The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. It talks about our S-H-A-P-E (Skills, Heart, Abilities, Personality, Experiences). We started using it to help him focus on the ingredients that has set him up for his future. We could see hope coming alive in his eyes. We are very excited about his journey and being as involved as he will let us. He is an amazing young man with an incredible future.
